Chromeo: Keeping 80’s Disco Shining Bright
Yes, Chromeo brought their unique 80’s Electro-funk to the modern city of Seattle at the packed Sodo Showbox on Sunday.
Opening for Chromeo was a boring, yet seemingly well-liked-enough DJ, who never even said who he was and only moved when he reached for his water. Not much of a warm up, and a lot more like a nice cool down. So let’s jump right to the good stuff…
“Chroooomeeeee-oh ohhhhhhh-oh, Chroooomeeeee-oh ohhhhhhh-oh,” chanted the crowd as the house music and lights went down. One step ahead of the piped-in audio track reiterating more of the same, the veterans in the crowd took note. The show had begun. The Canadian duo David Macklvitch and Patrick Gemayel, better known as Dave 1 and P-Thugg, walked on stage to their respective platforms. Then the 90 minute disco light show commenced.
Everything on stage, from Dave1’s reflective guitar to the sexy-legged music stands, bounced both light beams and electrical energy around the venue that evening. Part thanks to the mirrors placed around stage, and part thanks to the undeniable style of these eclectic artists. We’re sorry if you missed this show, as I’m sure fans will be chatting about it for a while, and with good reason too.
