Rolling Blackouts C.F. w/ Zebra Hunt
Barboza, Seattle, WA
03.28.17
Melbourne rockers Rolling Blackouts C.F. just wrapped up their tour with a short but sweet stop at Seattle’s Barboza, packing the basement venue with plenty of willing fans. Having just released The French Press, their debut EP for local label, Sub Pop Records, the Aussies are a band to keep readily on your radar.
Their set was short but sweet, downcast tracks with a vein of Aussie sunshine, and their sound balances twangy folk with a clear UK pop influence. It was infectious, had the crowd’s attention from the get-go, and those accents certainly don’t hurt. Youthful heartache met rollicking bravado, all three guitarists trading vocal duties and meeting up on solid multi-part harmonies. Their melodies are a soft, with layers of intricate, distorted guitars, but their rhythms drove it home. They’ve got some serious chops, and now with Sub Pop behind them, hopefully, the exposure to bring it to the masses.
Local openers Zebra Hunt impressed with their grungy, country-pop melodies. Their sound was loose and jangly and seemed off-the-cuff with a side of experience. They’ve got a new record coming out May 19th.
