Corrosion Of Conformity w/Â Brant Bjork, Saviors, Mothership
Neumos, Seattle, WA
11.21.15
Neumos is a small venue in Capitol Hill. This show has long been sold out and could have easily been moved to a larger venue. Regardless, in many ways the intimacy of such a tiny place makes things a lot crazier when things get loud and packed. First up on tonightâs bill was Mothership. The Dallas, Texas three-piece came out swinging with their Southern style groves and old school vibe. They put on an impressive display of showmanship warming up the already near capacity club.
Saviours from Oakland, California were up next. They had a sludgier, stoner vibe to them, and a very different sound than Mothership. As the crowd grew even more condensed and moved to the music, jamming themselves into the smallish room, some in a not so polite way, which made getting photos even more challenging.
Brant Bjork – best know for his work with Kyuss, and Vista Chino – was the perfect calm before the storm. His band had such a great groove and stage presence. Song after song had its own 70s stoner rock vibe. They set the tone for what mayhem that was to come, the crowd building to frenzy by the end of the set. It was a challenge to maintain my position in front to get a few shots of Corrosion Of Conformity.
COC took the stage to thunderous screaming and applause before they even got their instruments on. I had seen COC on the Blind Tour last November, and though good, you could tell that this crowd was looking for the missing ingredient, which is Pepper Keenan. The connection between the band and the crowd was at a feverish height. The âDeliverance Revival Tourâ was aptly named. Sonically Corrosion Of Conformity was back in fine form. Firing on all cylinders the band had a renewed energy I found slightly lacking on the previous tour. The intensity of the fans confirmed that sentiment exactly.
Great show, one for the record books. If you were there you know how special it was. Pepper announced at the end of the night they were going to record a new album for 2016. So if you didnât get to see them tonight, do not miss them on the next tour.
