Nearing the end of an Era

On Friday night Taylor Swift fans were buzzing with electric energy as B.C. Place was filling up for the first of three sold out shows to close out the Eras Tour.

Starting nearly ten minutes early, the stadium erupted with screams and applause as Swift took the stage with “Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Piece” followed by “Cruel Summer” bringing us right into the Lover Era. Her blue and gold body suit shimmered and shone as she silently awoke each section of the stadium with thunderous cheers by pointing to each corner of the stadium. Demonstrating how she had everyone’s attention and us all wrapped around her fingers for an incredible night.  Swift was quick to thank everyone for closing out the end of an Era in Canada – “it’s the last Friday of the Eras tour!” She brought us with her to make memories that Friday night. Over the course of three hours, she had beautiful costume changes, and mesmerized the fans singing along, truly transporting us through her 18 year musical history.

We moved through Lover into Fearless, then Red. During “22”, the most adorable girl was the new star of the Eras tour as she received Taylor’s now famous hat. The stadium was overjoyed at the young girl performing her heart out – as was Taylor.

Speak Now was “Enchanted” and Reputation was earth-shattering as Swift rocked her gold body suit.

You would have believed we were brought into the Canadian wilderness during folklore and evermore, as the stadium lit up with yellow orbs that were crafted by creative fans. “Champagne Problems” left the stadium in such awe, resulting in a minute long standing ovation. Swift removed her ear piece to take in the applause. Her kind smile showed the gratitude she has for all of her fans.

We moved into what is the danciest portion of the show with 1989. Fans were encouraged to “Shake It Off” and to get into the groove at every opportunity.  Taylor then brought us into her newest era of THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. She graced us with the messages of her current relationship and how “high school” their love is. Reminding us how meta Taylor is, as the crowd did chant “MORE!” Referencing her heartbreak at the beginning of this tour in 2023 with the song “I can do it with a Broken Heart”.

As with every Eras tour date, there is the surprise acoustic set. We were blessed with “Haunted” and a mash up  into “Wonderland”. Which as Swift said “I have to sing this next song some point in Canada, eh?” The crowd indeed loved the repetitious “eh, eh, eh, eh eh” chorus. Her piano acoustic set included a deeply moving mash up of “Never Grow Up” and “The Best Day”. It would have been challenging to find a dry eye in the stadium.

Prior to the start of the show, the audience was speculating about all of the various outfits, surprises and potential easter eggs we would get as one of the final shows.  During her Midnight set, she dropped a countdown on her fingers from 3, to 2. The crowd screamed and chatter erupted, “Is she counting down to Reputation TV?” Is it counting down to Taylor Swift TV?” This could be the countdown to the final show Sunday night. We are all going to keep eagerly awaiting when we will know for sure what this countdown will lead us, and when Reputation TV will finally be released.

“This has been the greatest last Friday night of the tour I could possibly imagine with you. Would you give us one more song?” Swift said while breaking into her fringe sparkle jacket and bringing us “Karma”. The fireworks and confetti lit up the audience as if we were meant to be on stage performing with her.

For the final Friday of the Era’s tour, we could all say it was “The Best Day”.
