MUNA w/ Nova Twins
Showbox SoDo, Seattle, WA
04.17.23

Despite being armed with two different pre-sale codes for MUNA’s “Life’s So Fun” tour, tickets were completely sold out before I ever hit the waiting queue. That’s MUNA fans for you tho—dedicated and super on top of supporting this trio’s every move. For a band that formed in college a decade ago, gathered indie fans early in their career, and were dropped from their label shortly into the COVID pandemic, MUNA have come a long way in the last few years.

Notably signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label in 2021, the band has since climbed their way up the streaming charts on the strength of their 2022 self-titled album. They’ve even hopped onto tours for both Lorde and Taylor Swift. So let’s just say they’re not hurting for exposure right now. For some, though, their sound may be relatively new, despite the fact that the trio is three albums in. And their setlist at Seattle’s Showbox SoDo showed off their latest critically-acclaimed work along with some deeper cuts for the real ones. Their energy was high and their set super clean. They’ve definitely finessed their live show. And they had the sold out crowd in the palm of their hands, singing along to every word.

English rock duo Nova Twins opened the show with a mind-blowing set of hard rock mixed with flavors of hip hop and R&B. Chaotic in a wonderful way, the group has a distinct swagger deserving of everyone’s attention, and they don’t seem at all afraid to grab it. Seriously, go check them out, you won’t regret it.
