Fitz and The Tantrums w/ Sammy Rash
Showbox, Seattle, WA
01.22.23

Even if you don’t think you know Fitz and The Tantrums, the band, you know Fitz and The Tantrums’ music. You’ve heard their boppy, bouncy soul-tinged LA pop in countless ad campaigns, film soundtracks, and — if you’re lucky — on live stages across the world for over a decade. They brought just this inescapable sound to Seattle’s historic Showbox theatre supporting the release of their fifth full-length album Let Yourself Free, and a sold-out crowd ate it up.

The show kicked off with opener Sammy Rash, a 20-year-old chill pop singer who’s been crafting music in his garage (but you probably know him from TikTok). He bounced around constantly, with youthful, upbeat tunes, and for this only being the 6th show of his life, he kept the crowd engaged and happy. He dropped in a couple of acoustic guitar tunes late in his set and got the crowd clapping along, so kudos to the kid for taking the stage by storm, despite occasionally being out of breath.

Then it was time for the main act, and there were plenty of VIP fans in the front, ready to rock and roll. And that they did when Fitz and the band took the stage, kicking it off with the lead single “Sway” from the new album.  The band explained that this was actually the first place they ever played, which got a big cheer from the crowd, but cheering basically never stopped. Neither did dancing. Or singing along to every track in the set — which covered a good deal of their career highlights, including (of course) “Out of My League”, “123456”, and “HandClap”.

If you’re ever looking for a band that will keep you moving, look no further than Fitz and The Tantrums. With their saxophone solos, rich, dance floor-ready sound, and easy anthems, you’re sure to be hooked in no time.
