Tegan and Sara
Neptune Theatre, Seattle, WA

It’s not uncommon to be on the edge of or in the middle of a wave of tears when listening to Tegan and Sara, especially when their sweet voices hit you live. Most of their fans would probably agree. But this time around felt different. It felt cathartic and grown up and funny. In support of their 10th album, 2022’s Crybaby, Tegan and Sara swung through Seattle as only 40-somethings could. With jokes about babies and getting high, twenty plus years into their career. And I’m telling you, they managed to sound better than ever.
While they did miss a few tour dates due to illness, you never would have known that they were anything but at the top of their game, with a tightly culled set of new tracks and old favorites — all of which were reworked — in hand. Their voices were top notch, their neon sets glowed, their music both poignant and totally danceable. Kudos to this duo for still being everything you could want and more, and for not making me cry this time around.
