Car Seat Headrest w/ Naked Giants
Showbox, Seattle, WA

Car Seat Headrest: Yes, it’s a part of your car, and yes, they’re also a Seattle band. Lead singer Will Toledo’s project took off a while ago, and show after show, our city will always turn up for a Car Seat Headrest show, especially when Naked Giants comes along too.

More locals, Naked Giants have that grungy, raw rock sound that Seattle is known for, and they do it perfectly. Noisy and reckless, this trio rocks hard and has the crowd jumping the entire time.

By the time Car Seat Headrest finally came out (with the members of Naked Giants playing with them), the crowd was thoroughly smushed and ready to party. This show was the second of a two-night stint at one of Seattle’s most iconic venues, The Showbox, perfectly fitting for a favorite local band.

The band opened ominously with a Lou Reed cover among dark light and heavy smoke before launching into “Bodys” to get all the fans singing. Lo-fi rock with a nostalgic vibe, the track really hooks the crowd in quick, as it’s easy to shout and dance along to.

But even after years of touring and albums on albums on albums, these guys don’t take themselves too seriously. No crazy wardrobe or pyrotechnics, Car Seat even took a break to play Darude’s “Sandstorm” in the middle of their set as a joke.

And finally ending with more laughs for “Hey Ya,” the cheers rang on long after the band had left the stage. Car Seat Headrest and Naked Giants delivered a wonderful night of Seattle’s best classic sound, and thank God they’re from here, because those shows are some you don’t want to miss.
