Smokepurpp w/ Keshawn
Showbox, Seattle, WA
08.16.18
If you walked around Capitol Hill or downtown in August, you probably passed by a poster featuring a dimly lit photo of someone blowing a big cloud of white smoke. No, it wasn’t an advertisement for a new pot shop, it was the poster announcing the highly anticipated return of Smokepurpp. After opening on Post Malone’s tour last fall, Smoke has only gained hype with the wave of new rappers coming up.
The night at the historic Showbox opened with Seattle native Keshawn. Clearly excited to be playing a hometown show, the rapper fit in perfectly with the teenage crowd decked out in brand-name and designer clothes. And the fans ate it up. Jumping so hard the floor was bouncing and the walls vibrated with the bass, Keshawn got the crowd adequately sweaty and smiley for Smokepurpp up next.
When Smoke finally took the stage, the energy only amplified. The crowd jumped around happily to “Nephew” and “123,” while Smoke partied with his squad on stage. While the rapper has a fair amount of music released, he actually only chose to play about five of his own songs. After he opened with all the popular ones, the majority of the rest of the night was spent paying tribute to all the artists we’ve lost this year. Blasting Lil Peep and XXXTENTACION tracks, love and sadness filled the room as everyone shouted along passionately.
They hype of the night ran strong through the end of the set, giving fans exactly the night they wanted for the return of Smokepurpp.
