107.7 The End Summer Camp 2018
Marymoor Park, Redmond, WA
08.11.18 – 08.12.18
Summer Camp: one of the season’s last hurrahs, where 107.7 The End works their magic to pull all your favorite indie music from the year into one cute little two-day festival at Marymoor. We sent off summer with a bang as we endured both pouring rain and bright sunshine, fueled by cans of cold brew and jalapeño mac n cheese, for a well-rounded Summer Camp experience.
So, in (reluctant) honor of the school season returning, here’s the roundup of Summer Camp’s most likely to labels:
Most likely to break hearts: The Driver Era
This one was probably the easiest. A former Disney Channel star, Ross Lynch and his siblings have a pretty strong following of dedicated teenage girls. If you were unaware of this before their set, it quickly became very clear with their piercing shrieks from the front row.
Most likely to chill everyone out: Bob Moses
A Summer Camp 2017 veteran, Bob Moses returned with their laid-back indie tunes for a perfect vibe to enjoy as the sun came out.
Most likely to make you laugh: Elle King
This girl is undeniably hilarious. Both between songs and in her lyrics, the crowd was laughing the entire time at her charismatic personality and witty sense of humor.
Most likely to shock you: Robert DeLong
We’ve heard his songs on 107.7 for years, and while they’re fun to listen to, seeing the man live is a totally different experience. He’s really the definition of a one-man band, running from table to table, playing on percussion pads, guitars, even Wii remotes, DeLong really does it all.
Most likely to make you fall in love: Smokey Brights
First of all, the music from this local band is super cute. They’ve got an adorable Seattle-indie sound that fits their name perfectly. And if that wasn’t enough, the smiles and laughs exchanged between the band members is enough to melt hearts.
Most likely to stand out: Pale Waves
Dressed in pretty much all black, these ultra-pale faces don’t exactly fit into the normal alternative scene as they lean a little less thrift store, and a little more Hot Topic. Label mates of The 1975, this British band was born into the same bright, retro indie sound that The 1975 does so well, just now with a new edge.
Most likely to turn heads: Manchester Orchestra
Summer Camp’s lineup tends to go all over the spectrum of alternative music, but I feel like it’s not often we get such a genuine hard rock band like Manchester Orchestra. These guys go off, and their energy is one you simply can’t peel your eyes away from.
Most likely to make your dad dance: Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats
Topping off the end of Summer Camp 2018, these guys just have a certain all-ages appeal that’ll get everyone out of their lawn chairs at the end of the weekend.
Most likely to put together a killer festival every single time: 107.7 The End
Very few radio stations can put together a festival where people in the front row are blowing bubbles standing next to a 9-year-old Elle King fan as they watch two people get married on stage between sets by the station’s lead host—thanks for another great year.
