Somewhere between adolescence and adulting, Hippo Campus was born. Having generated quite a bit of buzz over the last couple of years, the Minnesota four-piece is releasing their full-length debut, landmark, with a live show mid-tour at Seattle’s Neumos, with support from Magic City Hippies. Coming out of St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, these guys clearly have the tools they need to continue making an impression.
With two EPs under their belt, the band has teetered from breezy young love to the pains of regret, all with technical proficiency and spangled guitars. Their confidence and good vibes register as pop-rock precociousness, but their soaked-in-sunshine melodies are laced with just the right amount of grit to make them feel authentic. Their lyrics are both brightly optimistic and emotionally resonant, their hooks nothing if not catchy.
Catch them live for what’s sure to be a free-wheeling show on their way to breakout success.
