Over the last 35 years – since their formation in 1981 – Tears For Fears have established their trademark sound to become a major part of pop history. Their contributions to mainstream pop music history includes songs like “Shout,” “Head Over Heels,” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” strongly influencing artists currently reigning over pop radio.
Originally scheduled to open Chateau Ste. Michelle’s summer concert series in June, due to a family illness TFF postponed, and ended up closing the season out at the beautiful amphitheatre among the vineyards.
Opening the show was Zipper Club. The 3-piece indie pop band played a catchy set with guitarist Mason James and multi-instrumentalist Lizzie Trullie trading vocals. Their dynamic was powerful as they belted through songs from their forthcoming debut album, doing their best to entertain and warm up the wine and music enthusiasts.
To say the entire amphitheatre was anxiously awaiting TFF’s appearance is an understatement. Despite running a bit late, when Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith hit the stage with “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” everyone was up on their feet and dancing.
Hit after hit brought back so many great memories, watching them perform songs that we all have heard countless times over the years. They also threw in a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and then moved into Radiohead’s “Creep.”
TFF closed the evening with “Shout,” a great ending to a fun show. The band sounded fantastic, and really rocked, making the perfect ending to this stellar summer concert series.
