Dayshell w/ I the Mighty
El Corazon, Seattle, WA

I found out about Dayshell by complete accident one day, surfing around the net for new music. I was immediately hooked by the song “Carsick,” and then “When You Fall Asleep at Night.” The vocal lines and melody sounded all too familiar to me. They quickly became my new musical, so I was stoked to see that the band was coming to Seattle with a few other artists I wasn’t familiar with, but I was for sure there for one reason. I needed to see Dayshell!

Dayshell is a hard rock / alternative band hailing from SoCal, and fronted by Shayley “Dayshell” Bourget, former clean vocalist from metalcore band Of Mice and Men. He left OM&M in 2012 for personal reasons, eventually forming his own band.

Playing a wide mix of songs from their debut self-titled album and forthcoming sophomore release, Nexus (anticipated October 7, 2016), it was a pretty explosive set. Bourget had a great stage presence and interacted with the crowd constantly, at one point asking if there were any single ladies in the crowd as drummer Zack Baker was turning 19 tonight, and is single. That brought out some great screams of joy from females in the audience. I love it when a band is on point, ready to win over new fans, and are crushing live. Everyone seemed very pleased with what they saw and heard.

San Francisco’s I The Mighty has been a band for eight years. Lead vocalist Brent Walsh spoke to the enthusiastic crowd about how stoked they were that this was their first headlining show in Seattle. Despite all the ups and downs, ITM have kept the same line up, and were happy to see it finally taking off, and thanked the crowd for supporting them.

The show overall was super high energy, as they never stood still. Bassist Chris Hinkley never stopped rocking throughout the set. I’m convinced the man simply is a ball of energy and the only thing containing him is that stage. Even drummer Blake Dahlinger had a moment, taking a snare drum down in the middle of the crowd on the floor. Everyone gathered around and watched him play. That was something different.

At one point they tossed out a couple of hundred egg shakers for everyone to participate in the song, “Failures.” Then they finished off the night with all three parts of “The Frame,” wrapping up a sweaty high-energy evening.
