Eagles of Death Metal w/ Sinner Sinners
The Showbox, Seattle, WA
09.02.15
With the release of their fourth studio album Zipper Down only four weeks away, California rockers Eagles of Death Metal swept the Showbox stage clean with with incessant energy and irreverent attitude. Helming the hard rock ship was front man Jesse Hughes, who took the stage in suspenders and a red satin cape, hamming it up from beginning to end, at points seeming like a man possessed, exercising his rock and roll demons to a crowd that ate up every bit.
When they played their latest single “Complexity,” Hughes prefaced it with the statement that they were “guaranteed to fuck up,” but frankly no one would have cared. EODM play hard and fast, the urgency of their live performance perfectly fits the cocky, sexy and humorous songwriting they’ve become known for, wisecracks making frequent appearances throughout. All in all, EODM just want you to rock out and have fun with them, and it’s a hard thing to say no to. So don’t.
Opening the show was LA – by way of France – band Sinner Sinners. Fronted by husband and wife pair Steve and Sam, their sound is horror-punk laced with electronica, frenzied, versatile, and dark. Steve spent several songs singing from the crowd while the formed a pit around him and jumping up on the bar’s barrier wall for a bit, providing a “what will he do next?” aura. Dressed all in black, with all white guitars, they might throw you for a loop if you try to put their music in a tidy little genre, but they’re definitely worth a listen, putting in the work needed for both a great set and a great sound.
