Marymoor Park is 682 acres of pure Northwest vida. Room for dogs to roam, cyclists to fly, and enjoy some excellent music under the summer sun. The Marymoor Summer Concert series currently featured the duo of veteran singer/songwriters David Gray and Amos Lee.
Amos Lee is known for his laid-back grooves and soulful voice. With favorites such as “Sweet Pea” and “Colors” in the heads of the casual fan, you would expect the same folksy, acoustic vibe for the majority of his set; yet, we could not have been more wrong. Along with his fan favorites, Mr. Lee covered 90’s R&B classics “Pony” by Ginuwine, “End of the Road,” and alt-rock staple “Zombies” by the Cranberries. He covered these with his own easy, down home flare. Amos Lee can best be described as “the friend that you would want to play a few tunes on your porch during a summer night get-together”.
David Gray is celebrating his 10th studio album, Multineers, and his live act has certainly not lost a step. Walking confidently onto the stage, he began his set with a couple of songs at the piano. With his signature head bobs, he started the night with a slow build of some newer material. Highlights of the night included “Jackdaw,” “Please Forgive Me,” “You’re The One I Love,” a haunting tribute to his father titled “Other Side”, and his cover of “Purple Rain.” His gratitude was pronounced and his enthusiasm evident. A consummate performer.
