Super Geek League
El Corazón, Seattle, WA

On a seemingly innocent Friday night at El Corazon, I embarked on a sensory journey for the ages: Super Geek League, entertaining the small (but very enthusiastic crowd) with the following:
Lady Alien Robots
A 7′ insect lady with lighted batons
A Predator looking creature
Performers, skilled in lit hula hoops, staffs, and spinning rings
Acrobats on chairs
Acrobats on poles
Lizard men
Harley Quinn-esque contortionists
A host from another dimension
A priest who liked to rock out in the shadows
A panda with fangs
Cross-eyed clowns with humongous heads
Barbarella-like sword eaters
A naked green female goblin
Women with fish gills
…and the biggest confetti machine I have ever seen.
Amidst all of that is a large group of talented musicians that describe their brand of music as “Super Epic SciFidelic Action Adventure Rock”. Wrap your mind around that. They skirted the lines of metal, soul, funk, rock, and performance art. In between SGL sets was Johnny Sonic, his band, and some of the SGL brass section. Donning a robe and stunna shades, Mr. Sonic’s performance was a little erratic, but he made up for it with some eloquent slam poetry about guns, politics, and love.
All in all, I was overwhelmed by the energy and absolute quixotic nature of this group. Words do not do them justice – go to a show and bear witness to Super Geek League.
