Grace Love and the True Loves
Columbia City Theatre, Seattle, WA
06.14.15
For a Sunday night treat, we wandered down to Columbia City Theatre for our first dip into the sound sensation that is Grace Love and the True Loves. If anyone had any doubt about whether Seattle has a soul, there’s no longer a question. Grace Love – with her powerhouse personality and strong, sultry vocals – makes the perfect front woman for her 8-piece band of ultra-talented musicians.
Opening the show, the band played a magnificent instrumental intro that showcased the individual artists while displaying a cohesive sound, and the crowd was instantly on their feet and dancing. This is music rich with horns, the drums setting a quick beat, the guitars dialed in. When Love makes her appearance, the warmed-up crowd is ecstatic before she even opens her mouth and it’s clear this group has already been making a local name for themselves.
Ms Love has the kind of bluesy, gritty, powerful voice that begs attention. You can’t help but listen as she funks up the stage with attitude and emotion. Her cover of the 90’s Blackstreet hit “No Diggity” was brilliantly soulful and sexy and perfect for a hot summer night. Lined up for both Timberfest and Bumbershoot this year, and on their way to releasing a new full-length, get on this bandwagon before it takes off.
Keep an eye on their shows here.
