Shania Twain w/ Wes Mack
Key Arena, Seattle, WA
06.05.15
For the first show of her first tour in eleven years, Shania Twain isn’t looking – or sounding – half bad. Seattle’s Key Arena went country on Friday night as Twain took to the stage in an all-out arena performance that included pyrotechnics, lasers and multiple costume changes. Not to mention a flight around the arena on, what was that, a saddle? Let’s just say the show was pure, over-the-top, pop-country pleasure.
While there may have been a few hiccups in her voice and the staging, they were more than forgivable for the first night of tour, especially when you factor in that Twain still possesses the vocal prowess and characteristic magnetism that launched her career. She opened the show with a rollicking rendition of “Rock This Country,” also the name of the tour, amongst pyrotechnics and thunderous applause. Right off the bat, she kept it country with “You Win My Love” and “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under” and suddenly she seemed to loosen up.
Once she was comfortable on stage, her fringed jacket came off, her big, newly-blonde hair swung, and she was clearly having fun with the show. Her humble attitude and famous smile are still as winning as ever. Highlighting the show was a three-song acoustic set that included the major mainstream hit “Still The One.” But she saved the bedazzled bodysuit and powerful anthem for the end, closing the show with “Man! I Feel Like A Woman.”
Her opener, fellow Canadian actor and musician Wes Mack, for his first performance in the U.S. did an admirable job of warming up the crowd.
