Stone Temple Pilots w/ Dreamers
Paramount Theatre, Seattle, WA
04.08.15
Legendary hard-hitters Stone Temple Pilots took a turn for the Paramount on Wednesday, giving Seattle a glimpse of their shiny new lineup. Front man for Linkin Park, Chester Bennington now replaces former lead man Scott Weiland, who was dismissed in 2013 after years of personal turmoil. This evening was the first night of their spring tour, consisting of a mere 14 dates dotting the States.
The Paramount looked fairly lonely until STP came out. In a rare occurrence, crowd surfing almost seemed native inside the house, as enthusiasm soared alongside the chemistry between the STP vets and Bennington. Bennington did a great job of filling Weiland’s shoes, showcasing the same slithery, whimsical motions of Weiland, while also belting out some cleaner vocals than Linkin Park fans may be used to hearing. As varied as their set list, the crowd ranged from kids to much older adults; this may be what Bennington was referring to, as he spoke with admiration about Seattle’s inclusive, eclectic population. There was no shortage of hugs between the black-clad members of STP, as they roared through a set list that included many past hits, as well as “Out of Time” from their latest EP (and first release with Bennington), High Rise. Premiering a new acoustic song, “Adhesive,” Bennington displayed his endearing human qualities, as they restarted the song and the tour begun…
