Echosmith w/ The Colourist

Saturday night was a sold-out crowd, full of kids on shoulders, teen girls in bowler hats, and a mix of patient moms and celebratory twenty-something couples in the bar. With their name in marquee lights across the stage, the four Sierota siblings of California band Echosmith completely won over the crowd with their carefree pop sounds on their first headlining tour.
In a sparkly dress with a lit-up mic stand, lead singer Sydney Sierota worked the audience with a practiced, energetic stage presence, mature beyond her seventeen years. The band opened the set with the upbeat romance of “Let’s Love” before launching into “Talking Dreams,” the title track from their 2013 debut album, complete with Syd’s pink parasol routine. Their music may not be deep, or intensely original, but it’s definitely good. And fun. And completely appropriate.
Echosmith gave us most of their album, along with a cover of Modern English’s classic “Melt With You.” Pulling a couple of youngsters on stage during “Come With Me,” Sydney requested that they dance and act like they were in love. And dance they did, putting out the kind of innocent, lighthearted energy that defined the night. With fun banter, tons of crowd interaction, and near-surprising musical expertise, Echosmith definitely know what they’re doing. While they may be young, this band is good. And given some time and age, I don’t doubt they’ll go far.
Opening the night was another LA band, indie-pop rockers The Colourist, whose self-titled 2014 debut has been making some noticeable waves. With catchy hooks and the fantastic harmonies of Adam Castilla and drummer Maya Tuttle, expect to see them with even more face time this year.

I was at this show! I was one of the youngsters who was lucky enough to dance on stage during “Come With Me”! I also gave the drummer of The Colourist (Maya) the flowers that she decorated her drum with! It was a magical night. I love this review and the photos. Thank you for sharing them!
Glad you had fun just as much as we did 🙂
