Tweedy
Neptune Theatre, Seattle, WA
03.12.15
Thursday evening at the Neptune hosted a very special performance, pairing together the past and future essences of beloved band Wilco. Tweedy, comprised of Wilco lead man Jeff Tweedy, and his nineteen year-old son, Spencer Tweedy, set about on a major touring course after releasing their debut album, Sukierae, last year. Generally speaking, the first half of their road set involves both father and son, as well as a backing band, playing Sukierae tracks. For the latter half, the audience usually finds themselves mesmerized by a solo acoustic set performed by Jeff, in which he indulges in Wilco and Uncle Tupelo favorites.
The stage was set in a whirl of roadies, iced by seven microphones. Daydreams of an intimate performance seemed to evaporate, realizing that this truly was a family affair, and all band members would be assisting on vocals. Never to worry, however, as the set spoke for itself. Jovial, lighthearted, and still music-centric, Tweedy and company still tore it up. Jeff’s witty, humorous nature shined through the evening, as did his uncanny talent for writing about the highs and lows of life. Not much other than time has changed, and it’s heartily advised that one take the time to go see Tweedy, especially if you listened to Wilco. The essence carries on.
