Skates! w/BARDOT & Krab Rangoon
Barboza, Seattle WA
3.7.15
After they acquired the appropriate beverages, local band Skates! – another energetic offering from proficient Lesli Wood – was off and running for their debut album release show. Skates! is a Band offers more of the catchy melodies Wood is known for, with a surf-pop sound that hearken influences like Husker Du, Talking Heads, and Best Coast. And it is completely infectious. Three of the four members (Wood on lead guitar/vocals, Betty ST on guitar/vocals and Larry Brady on bass/vocal) are holdovers from eclectic punk-rock outfit The Redwood Plan, joined by Stormi King on Drums.
Skates! play hard, play well, and have fun, immediately encouraging the crowd to get closer in an already tight space. Their carefree yet hardcore musicianship will draw you in, with post-Joan Jett classically punk vibes. Power vocals, fast-paced songs, stripped down lyrics – it’s all here. Stay on the lookout for their next show, and grab the album now. For more info check out their Facebook page here.
Completing the local lineup were BARDOT and Krab Rangoon. Bardot knocked socks off – think 60’s girl groups brilliantly remixed with dirty hip-hop – and were joined by NANZ (Anna Bananna Lange, owner of retail favorite Pretty Parlor), who partied it up onstage with some sick rhymes. BARDOT is definitely one to watch.
Krab Rangoon, featuring members of The Young Evils and Deep Creep, was only three practices in, but with undeniable musicianship they gave a short set that only has room to grow. Looking forward to what these guys might offer up.
