No Bragging Rights

Riverside veteran Mike Perez and co. started the first of three Washington dates, as No Bragging Rights filled precious space in El Corazon on Friday night with an eager, boisterous crowd. They proudly brought in tow their fifth full length album, The Concrete Flower, which was released back in September. The album poignantly addresses suicide, as a chatty and amiable Perez choked back tears explaining the loss of a close friend. Pulled tonight from this latest addition to their catalogue was of course the title track, in addition to the crowd pleaser “Outdated,” as well as the soul-searching “Downhearted.” No Bragging Rights also took plenty of their set from 2012’s Cycles, most notably the title track. The anger and pain in Perez’s vocals seemed palpable. While the pit wasn’t exactly for the faint of heart, one needn’t be up front to enjoy themselves. The band members also made their usual social rounds before and after their set to meet their fans and say ‘hello.’
No Bragging Rights has been actively jamming the airwaves with their relentless and dramatic melodic hardcore since the turn of the century, and time, it could be argued, has made their sound even more fierce. Regardless of the seemingly revolving door at bass, their in-your-face style has yet to be dampened, or worse, become trite. Their grind continues on to Europe through the remainder of January before returning to the States next month.
