Preview: Mates of State

Never a dull moment in their measure, Mates of State will soon be filling the Tractor Tavern with their sweet, upbeat sound and endearing chemistry. Forged by a true attraction to both each other and their craft, Mates of State is composed of wife Kori Gardner and husband Jason Hammel. Initially built upon a foundation of organ and drums, their recent albums have seen them incorporate more traditional instruments, most of which have been previously shunned. Their trademark vocal melodies have remained a constant, as well as their permutated format.
Boasting seven full length albums, a few EP’s, and sprinkled with countless media appearances, Mates of State has spent the last decade producing and evolving their infectious sound. Personally speaking, I have taken every opportunity to see them live since catching them on their Team Boo tour down in Florida back in the day. These two are great, and you’d be a fool to miss a great, intimate show at the Tractor. It’ll set you back $16, but you can thank me later.
