I’m uncertain what all needs to be said about a live Gwar show. If you’re reading this because you clicked on the pretty pictures, then I can’t save you.
Famed for their over-the-top theatrics and blood-soaked audiences, GWAR has been prancing around in foam rubber outfits for decades. Their live set has become the stuff of legends, and they continue to enjoy a cult-like following from diehard fans. Whether it’s shock value, or truly embodying the disembodiment, don’t expect GWAR to take off their ridiculous masks anytime soon and give you the 30-year update. Their mystique, for lack of a better word, is better left unprobed, buried in a box somewhere in Richmond, Virginia.
A costumed security guard took the stage to introduce the story and the band before his head was promptly lopped off, beginning the waterworks of blood that is GWAR’s trademark. Not to worry though, because it’s washable food dye for the sake of their stage costumes. Theoretically, you’ll be able to go home and wash all of this debauchery and sin away, too. Just as the decapitation spurting subsided, goblins stationed on each side of the stage began squirting a green ooze out into the crowd, disregarding security and photographers alike. Between utters and boobs, blood was being shot from every fake orifice on stage, following a convoluted storyline of monsters slaying monsters and such and such. How much of that is the audience really expected to follow between the music, the moshing, and all of the red colored pastries ne’er meant for this world? I mean really.
But, in the end, their sci-fi adventures are always hard to ignore. Thine eyes, look away! (Re: Enjoy the pics!)
