New Politics
Neumos, Seattle, WA
11.6.2014
The last year has been really huge for New Politics. Gaining momentum and garnering some mainstream success, this band has rapidly grown out of small club shows to headlining sold-out dates at much larger venues. The Neptune on Thursday night was no exception…
A long line of high school punk rock and pop fans lined the sidewalk of the Neptune hours before doors were scheduled to open, eager to snag the best spot up front. The venue filled within minutes. SomeKindaWonderful and Bad Suns primed the crowd with their stellar opening sets, and had the audience screaming as they left the stage. Everyone was warmed up and ready for New Politics.
Two hours had passed since doors had opened and Bad Suns had completed their set. This felt like nothing compared to the next 25 minutes waiting for New Politics to come on. The Neptune finally went pitch black, and only dim light remained behind them, accompanied by the small glow of their bars logo. Boyd, Hansen, and Vecchio walk out on stage to massive screams from the crowd. Fans pushed and grabbed at the chance to touch the band, and the musicians made a solid effort to reach back. They performed a memorable and crazily energetic show, putting raw emotion and candid feeling into every song. Whether it was fast and upbeat, an epic solo piano ballad, or a track with only drums and a ukulele, New Politics brought the life of the night to the Neptune for all of their Seattle fans.
