The Black Keys
Key Arena, Seattle, WA
11.01.14
While the Key Arena isn’t known for having great acoustics, The Black Keys turned it around and took it to mythical proportions on Saturday night when they performed a flawless performance full of angelical sound. Who’s surprised though? This is, remember, The Black Keys…
They owned the stage, and the astounding energy in the Key Arena only shot skyward. Song after song, the duo rocked out their famous bluesy, garage hits. They intermixed a sampling of songs from their new album, Turning Blue, and added a lively, raw layer. Always nostalgic for the familiar sounds and musical banter between guitarist Dan Auerback and drummer Patrick Carney, I personally favored the last song of the night, “Little Black Submarines.” Beginning slow, intentional, and soulful, it was built into true Black Keys form when it ended as a full-on rock affair. God bless them, because it was magical. Somebody give these guys more Grammys.
Jake Bugg and touring band primed the crowd with a comfortable and simultaneously uneasy sound. His approach is refreshing and new. While the young and vibrant blend of music transitioned through the set, he always hit the mark for pure spirit. A product of the UK, Bugg will be spending the first half of November in the States before heading out again. This guy is multi-talented, requiring extra hands on tour if he wishes to give his music justice. Be sure to check him out and catch him if you can.
