Night three of the 9/47 KNRK, brought one of the new big names bands of the year to the Crystal Ballroom, Of Monsters and Men. Having blown up around the U.S this past year with their hit single “Little Talks” and U.S released “Mountain Sounds”, Of Monsters and Men concert sold out on day one. Often being compared to Mumford and Sons, Of Monsters and Men have far different sound that is much more unique. And you can’t beat those Icelandic accents. Of Monsters and men, Icelandic natives traveled across the Atlantic to bring their folk music to the Crystal Ballroom and played an incomparable concert for the people of Portland.
With the stage arranged with the drummer in the front of the right side it would be a performance with every artists along the edge of the stage. Opening up the night was the song “Dirty Paws”. The slow to fast build up created an exciting start to the show. Lead by front woman Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and frontman Ragnar Þórhallsson the melodies created by both vocals resonated through the venue to the ears of the fans. Each song showing just how unique this band is. I have heard people say that “Little Talks is so good but I have not heard any of their other songs”. But what their live performance shows is that Of Monsters and Men are more than just the song Little Talks. With songs like Lakehouse, King and Lionheart, Love Love Love, and Mountain Sounds there is definitely more to Of Monsters and Men than their big hit Little Talks. The performance of the band was one that has excited me for the future. With huge success in the U.S you can expect to see Of Monsters and Men back in the States sooner rather than later. For now please enjoy these photos from their concert in Portland at the Crystal Ballroom.
