When I discover a new song I usually abuse the hell out of the song by listening to it on repeat for a week or two. I will not even attempt to look up any other songs from the band in fear that the band is only a one hit wonder. When I discovered Walk the Moon’s song Anna Sun via a Youtube suggestion I did not look up any other music for at least 4-5 weeks. The song was so good I could not imagine their other songs being close to the greatness as Anna Sun. It was not until an hour before their concert on November 21st 2012 at the Crystal Ballroom that I was eating dinner when I looked up the rest of their music. To my excitement, my fear was completely wrong. The rest of their music was like a breath of fresh air. I got a huge adrenaline rush to photograph and attend the Walk the Moon concert and could not wait for the show to begin.

If Walk the Moon is a new band to you, like it was for me 5 weeks ago, check out their 7 in 7 official unofficial music videos the band made themselves here, here, and here.

If you’re a sucker for catchy songs then Walk the Moon are the band you need to checkout because their concert was full of catchy songs that will make you Just Dance and sing along with. Walk the Moon’s concert on November 21st at the Crystal ballroom was one of the better concerts I have been too. From start to end the stage presence was engaging. It’s not often you see a band have fun on stage playing songs they wrote but the Walk the Moon made it obvious they were enjoying every minute on stage. Lead singer, Nicholas Petricca, stood front and center on the stage behind his double keyboard and tom drum, with Sean Waugaman at the back on drums, Eli Mainman on guitar and Kevin Ray on bass all had painted their faces similar to the war paint in their Anna Sun music video. Walk the Moon played many of the songs off their recently released self-titled record including, Tightrope, Jenny, I Can Lift A Car, Shiver Shiver, and Quesadilla. Before Shiver Shiver Walk the Moon played a quick cover of the Mario Brothers theme song which fit nicely into song Shiver Shiver. The entire night was full of catchy lyrics and beats as much as it was full of anticipation for the song Anna Sun. Finally towards the end of the night during their last song I heard the opening strum of the guitar beginning Anna Sun. The crowd kept silent over the vocals from the PA but there was jumping even during the opening slow part of the song. Once the pre-chorus came in the entire crowd erupted singing the lyric “Anna Sun”. The volume of the crowd from that point was over-whelming, putting goose bumps on my arms, even in the sweaty venue. The band was feeding off the crowd and the final moments of the concert became in some ways the entire night recaptured into one song. The fans were incredible, even as I was leaving I saw a teenage kid in the corner near the mech table just staring down at the new vinyl record he must have just bought in complete awe for the concert he just attend. For a band on their first headlining world tour just a few months after releasing their first full length album I look forward to many Walk the Moon concerts in the future and if you missed this one I would suggest not missing the next.
