Youngblood Hawke @ Crystal Ballroom

It seems more often then not that I will go months without knowing which band is currently playing my new favorite song I heard on a commercial, video game, radio, or tv. First I heard Youngblood Hawke’s song, We Are Running, on FIFA 13, and I thought it was a pretty good song. But I was more concerned about playing FIFA. Then I kept hearing it on the radio. It was not until my older brother asked me if I was going to feature Youngblood Hawke next month on this site. When I looked them up to see if they were any good the clouds finally parted. I figured out who that band was that was playing the song stuck in my head. I screamed out in excitement, YES, I want to see this band!!!

Youngblood Hawke came to Portland Tuesday night to play during the 9/47 fm radio station “I Saw Them When Concert”. A concert special 9/47 fm radio promotes to bring up and coming bands to Portland, where the tickets cost on .94 cents. With Youngblood Hawke highly successful new self-titled EP and .94 cent tickets, the show sold out far before the doors opened at the Crystal Ballroom.

Even though Youngblood Hawke have only been around for a little more then a year their live set was a sold as a band with years of experience. Fronted by lead singer Nik Huges and backup vocals/precessions Alice Katz there was always something to watch. The combination of fast songs and high energy stage presence made this shows worth 100 times more then the .94 cents ticket price. Nik Huges, dressed in circus striped pants and uniquely patterned shirt, had his own drum head to hit in the front of the stage. Their performance of their current single We Come Running was the moment many in the crowd where waiting for and when it came their was not a person in the crowd standing still. The trampoline type flooring at the Crystal Ballroom shock the entire room. For an up and coming band with just and 5 song EP they sure where able fill the hour long set. Playing new songs not heard yet, a cover, and some of the best music you could pay for. I can’t wait to see where these guys are in the next few years. With their talented song writing ability on songs like We Come Running, amazing stage presence from their talented lead guitarist and singer it wont be long before Youngblood Hawke return to Portland. If you missed them this time around you would be a fool to miss them the next time around.
