Jennifer Nettles, Brandy Clark

Jennifer Nettles, the leading lady of Sugarland, gave the south end a visit on Monday evening with a stop at the Washington State Fair. A beautiful, powerful voice was equally matched by a lovely, delicate demeanor and a great backing band. Her set flowed as easily as her smiles, opening the night with “That Girl,” to a crowd that could hardly contain their hootin’ and hollerin’. Hit singles and quiet gems aside, Nettles was magical on a star-filled evening, with a warmth that dismayed even the most metal of bleachers and chairs.
Any attendee that did their homework found great satisfaction in opener Brandy Clark’s set. Not only is she a fantastic musician and an amazing singer, but she is a premier songwriter for some hard-hitting country superstars. This lady can write, and has an impeccable sense of humor. Her voice is stellar; at times deep and soulful. Clark has plenty of credits to her name, and she decided to finish her set this evening with “Stripes,” a lighthearted brainstorm of revenge and vanity. So great. Check this lady out, because she’s a sleeper in the country arena who will eventually wake up.
